Concert January 21st, Douai Abbey

We are delighted to annouce that The Clerks of Christ Church will be performing at Douai Abbey (near Reading) on Saturday January 21st at 7.45pm.

The programme is entitled A Garland of the Elizabethan and comprises a selection of Tallis's Motets, Antiphons, Responds, Responsories, and Hymns from his Cantiones Sacrae publication of 1575 celebrating 17 years of Elizabeth I's reign, alongside Madrigals and Partsongs to Elizabethan lyrics from five centuries of composition.

This is an enchanting programme entering into the world of covert Catholic worship during Elizabeth I's reign and the subsequent musical response of composers to the golden age of English poetry. You will hear the music of the great Thomas Tallis performed at the pitches in which it was originally written, and in the vocal allignment for which he almost certainly conceived it. Coupled with this, are a selection of Elizabethan Madrigals, French Partsongs, and one of the Five Elizabethan Lyrics of Richard Pantcheff, commissioned by, and written for The Clerks of Christ Church, and first performed in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building on October 31st, 2003. Please do join us for this unforgetable experience.

Tickets available on the door (£8 / £5 concessions), or in advance from the Newbury Corn Exchange, 01635 522733, boxoffice@cornexchangenew.co.uk
